Marcus Algernon Adams was a painter and photographer, born in Southampton. He was the father of artist artist Gilbert Adams. Adams who went on to become a member of the London Salon of Photography, specialising in pictures of children. Marcus studied at Reading University and in Paris and showed at the St. Ives Society of Artists and the Reading Guild of Artists although he was better-known as a portrait photographer. In 1926 he was asked to photograph the infant Princess Elizabeth, and from then on his portraits of her and her sister, Princess Margaret Rose, were reproduced throughout the world. In 2005, the Museum of Reading acquired 30 photographic prints by him and his son Gilbert Adams.
