Manner of Jean-Antoine Watteau Mid 19thC Oil - Hand Painted Face Screen Panel

Description

A beautiful, 19th century lacquered papier-mâché face screens (without the original handle). The panel has beautifully sculpted edges and on it is a scene with a mother and two children adorning a sheep with floral garlands. The painting is in the manner of Jean-Antoine Watteau.The panel is presented in a fine gilt frame with an internal grey card mount.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some craquelure to the surface. There is a small loss to the lower edge where the original handle came away and two small nail holes where the handle was attached.
