The condition is very good for a picture of this age. With areas of light craquelure to the sky. The frame is also in good condition, with small surface marks and slight scuffing to the corners. Inspection under UV light shows no sign of restoration.

Lowry Lewis (1850-1913) was a painter of sea pieces and a native of Guernsey, Channel Islands born William John Lowry Lewis. Lewis spent long periods of time in Cornwall and Devon painting coastal scenes. He was a founder member of the Bristol Savages in 1904 and to commemorate the occasion of the first Savage Dinner, he painted 'Come Pick a Bone' which is today often reproduced in poster form. He was allegedly an elected member of the RWA, however the Academy’s on-line archives make no mention of his membership, nor does ‘The Dictionary of British Artists 1880-1940’ show Lewis as ever having exhibited there! He died and is buried in Bristol.
