Description

A wonderful impasto study of Vézelay Abbey in Burgundy, France. This Benedictine and Cluniac monastery is located in Vézelay in the east-central French department of Yonne. The view is captured from ground level, looking up through a cluster of trees planted in a courtyard. The work is rendered in hues of pink and brown. Signed to the lower left. Artist label to the reverse inscribed with the location. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age. There is some scuffing and wear to the edges and corners of the canvas. There is some craquelure to the surface. The paint is stable.
