Louis Auguste Moreau (1855-1919) - Original Late 19th Century Sculpture. An impressive late 19th century classical Louis Auguste Morea sculpture in spelter. The renowned French Moreau family were making sculpture from around the end of the 19th century, at the height of the Art Nouveau period. Depicts a classical figure wearing a loin cloth, with an eagle tied to his back and holding a stick in his left hand, on naturalistic base. Signed Louis Moreau. Mounted on a wooden base. 70cm tall including 3.5 cm of wooden base. The base diameter is 24cm. If you are not in the UK, please get in touch for a custom shipping quote. The spelter sculpture is loosely attached to the wooden base and there is a hole drilled into the top of the head.

Moreau was born in Dijon in 1855, he studied with his father and also under Aimé Millet, Augustin Drumont and Jean Thomas. Moreau's style was realistic and graceful, revealing his relation to the other members of the Moreau dynasty.
