Liu Haiming's striking woodblock depicts a large rotund cactus and flower with exquisite attention to texture and form. The contemporary and graphic approach to a botanical, organic subject are qualities which Liu Haiming has beautifully expressed in his sensitive and expert knowledge of the woodblock medium. The print has been inscribed, signed, dated and editioned 14/50 in pencil to the lower edge, with an artist stamp visible to the lower right edge. On wove.Condition

Artist Biography
The painter and printmaker Liu Haiming, 劉海明版畫 was born in 1954 in Shanxi province, North China. From 1973-1977 he worked as a coal miner before graduating from the highly selective CAFA in 1981. In 1986 he was sponsored by Scottish Arts Council as an artist in residence, continuing to live in Europe until 1996. He now teaches printmaking in North China, exhibiting his work in a number of leading international galleries. Achieving notoriety within the UK, Liu Haming sold a collection of prints, calligraphy and papercuts to the British Museum in the 1990s. He was also included in a group exhibition of ‘Modern Chinese Prints’ in The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The exhibition mainly included examples of his early woodcuts which depicted aspects of daily life in rural China, as well as more recent work.
