A wonderful early 20th century etching by the eminent artist Lionel Lindsay. Here the artist has captured Castle Caco in Qaqun. The castle in thought to have been built during the Crusader period, and is first mentioned in 1123.
The fine line and expressive marks are quintessential hallmarks of Lindsay's style, key themes in his oeuvre include the Australian outback, old Sydney, romantic views of Spain and Arab culture.

Signed. On wove.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and light foxing. The left edge of the paper has been creased and a watermark is visible to the upper left. Oher various creases are noticeable to the right edge.

Lionel Lindsay was a painter and printmaker born in Victoria, Australia, He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1893-95. He spent some years in England at the beginning of the century and was much influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites and the Art Nouveau movement. In 1902 he travelled for six months in Spain and produced many fine etchings of the journey. He exhibited at the RA, RHA, FAS and at Colnaghi, London in 1926, staying in England until 1934.
