Artist Biography

Lily Florence Waring was born in Birkenhead, Wirral and studied at Manchester School of Art, Cambridge School of Art, and in Paris. A key member of the Suffrage Movement, in 1911 Waring was appointed to the official position of National Organiser for the Women’s Suffrage Society. On a visit to Penwortham in Preston she was described as 'Women’s Suffrage Agitator'.

Waring exhibited many paintings at the Beaux Arts Gallery, London, RI, RBA and UA. Examples of her work are in the collection of Warrington Museum and Art Gallery. Alongside her political and artistic work, Waring was an academic specialising in Serbian Studies and an author of poetry and fiction.
