Leopold Rivers was son and pupil of the marine painter William Joseph Rivers and the father of artist Alfred Montague Rivers. Taught by his father, he was a prolific exhibitor showing at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and Walker Art Gallery. The Royal Society of British Artists elected him to their ranks in 1890 and examples of his work are held in the collections of Museums Sheffield. Towner Art Gallery and Stockport Art Gallery.
