Description

A fine interior scene depicting a nude model posing by a candlelit fireplace. The scene captures styles and motifs of the early 20th century, from the model's short cropped hair to the dark furniture and gilt features of the interior. The artist draws the viewer's eye in the direction of the model's, centring on the ornate mirror and candlesticks above the fire, creating a sense of balance in the proportionate composition. Signed to the lower right. Artist name also inscribed to stretchers verso. Presented in a substantial gilt frame with foliate corner ornamentation and scrolling strapwork. On canvas.

Condition

The painting is in good condition for its age. There is some minor craquelure to the surface in the bottom left quadrant. No signs of overpainting or restoration. Light areas of wear and stable cracking to the gilt frame.
