Late 19th Century Watercolour - A Peaceful Moment
Description
A truly idyllic scene in watercolour showing a vignette through a cool, shadowy woodland, to a mother and child, resting to eat an apple at a style, with the beautiful rolling hills and meadows just visible beyond, bathed in golden sunlight. The artist has perfectly captured the delicate spots of dappled sunlight on the path and the gentle glow of light through the distant branches of the trees. The painting has a similar Romanticism to the work of Myles Birket Foster.
The artist has indistinctly monogrammed (possibly SSC) to the lower left corner and the painting has been presented in a gilt frame with was-line mount.
