An interesting mid to late 19th century landscape study depicting the Old Cow Tower, Norwich. The Cow Tower is an artillery tower by the River Wensum in Norwich, Norfolk, England. Built between 1398 and 1399 by the city authorities in response to the threat from France and indigenous English rebels. Label for H & F. A. Burrows to the reverse. Unsigned. On board.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirt. There are areas of craqueleure. With scuffing and minor flakes of paint loss to the edges and corners. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of restoration/overpainting most noticeable to the upper right corner. Finished with a shiny varnish.
