Late 19th Century Oil - Grecian Beauties

Description

A beautifully delicate late 19th/ turn of the Century oil on panel. The scene shows a beautiful young woman having her hair braided by another young woman as another girl looks on, holding a fan, with a dog at her feet. The scene appears to be Mediterranean, with azure skies, palm fronds and vines hanging from the balcony. The finely detailed painting holds elements of classicism and the characters seem almost Pre-Raphaelite. The painting is unsigned, on wood panel and presented in a beautifully proportioned Cassetta style frame (in keeping with the Mediterranean style of the painting). The fame boasts the original glazing, beaded strapwork and a fluted cove. On wood panel.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and areas of light foxing. The frame has some surface scuffing to the gilt and a loss to the inner window strapwork at the lower edge.
