Late 19th Century Oil - Cattle Farmer in a Landscape
Description
A charming late 19th century oil, depicting a busy cattle farmer returning an escapee to its field. A freshly cut wheat field spans the left of the scene with stocks of straw stood out to dry. The painting has been monogrammed by the artist to the lower right with the date (1880). On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some uneven discolouration and yellowing of the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of restoration. A tear in the canvas has been repaired to the reverse and concealed by overpainting to the front. There is also craquelure present on the surface of the painting.
