A solitary figure leans against a fence to admire the sunset as it settles over the rolling countryside in this charming late-nineteenth-century oil. A partially legible signature to the lower left reads "Humphrey ...inely". The work is beautifully presented in a gilt frame with a fluted cove adorned with beaded and egg-and-dart running patterns. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including some discolouration and areas of craquelure. The canvas has been previously relined. The artwork is in good condition for its age.
