Late 19th Century Oil - A Sad Farewell

Description

A fine late 19th century oil showing a finely dressed soldier, arm in arm with his elderly mother, strolling around a rural lake, with their cottage in the distance. The mother looks sad as she holds onto her son's arm, as if she does not want him to leave for war. The painting is unsigned and the canvas stamp at the reverse dates this painting between 1868-1899. On canvas.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including heavy discolouration. There are two repairs to the canvas at the reverse which have been fully restored at the front. There are some areas of restoration, revealed under UV light. There is some undulation to the canvas in the upper left quadrant and general wear to the canvas and paint around the outer edges.
