A charming traditional Japanese woodblock showing a geisha holding up her young child as he reaches out to a cricket cage hanging from the ceiling. Crickets were kept as pets for their song and families would build cages and hang them in different rooms so each room had its own cricket song. An accomplished print with crisp lines and plenty of character in the figures faces, this piece gives an excellent picture of traditional Japanese garb of the 1800s. The print has been presented in an off white card mount and a gilt, bamboo effect frame.
Unsigned. On laid.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The frame is in fine condition.
