Lady Charlotte Lindsay - Original 1820 Pen and Ink Drawing. A fine sketchbook, containing views of English and Italian landscapes. There are 10 detailed ink and sepia wash drawings, and 28 slight ink sketches (page stubs visible where pages have been removed). These include views of Beaufort, Murli Aqueduct, St.Cloud, Boulevards from The Rue Bape du Rempart, Wroxton Abbey, Orti della Farnesina, Villa Barberini, Monte Fiascone, Lake of Bolsena, and more. Dated in ink on the album cover. Unsigned. Condition is typical for a sketchbook of this age including some discolouration and wear to sketchbook cover. Minor age toning to pages. Some of the pages are coming loose from the sketchbook.Lady Charlotte Lindsay was the sister of the Earl of Guilford. She was brought up Wroxton Abbey, Oxfordshire. Wroxton Abbey was built in the 17th century on the remains of a 13th century abbey. It was long the home of the Lords North - later Earls of Guilford.

This is from a collection of sketching albums by Lady Charlotte Lindsay, dateable over a period from c.1809-1826. These sketchbooks comprise English, French and Italian landscapes, including sketches from continental tours of 1809, 1814, 1821, 1823, and 1825/6, many inscribed. English subjects in the albums include Wroxton Abbey, Broughton Castle, Old Gatehouse, Great Malvern and Beauport.
