Description
A very fine original charcoal still life study depicting two apples on a branch with leaves, a typical subject at drawing schools during the period 1900-1910. This work bears the signature 'L.S. Lowry' to the upper left, and the initials 'L.S.L.' to the lower right, as well as further inscriptions, '02' denoting the date 1902 and '1 hr', most likely the time the study took to complete. A variety of elements and aspects of the work are in keeping with authentic L.S. Lowry works of the period, however due to a lack of provenance for this piece we are unable to attribute the work to Lowry. This is in line with advice given by several Lowry experts and Bonhams in London. On paper.Condition
There is some discolouration and noticeable foxing to the lower left quadrant. Two small pin holes to the upper right corner.
