Description

L.J. Webster - Original Late 19th Century Pen and Ink Drawing. Unsigned. In fine condition.

L.J. (Leo) Webster was a talented designer of commercial packaging and advertisements. From a collection of original paintings and drawings by Webster, many of which are original designs for various printed labels and products. The collection includes works of exquisite steady-handed precision with a paint brush. Mostly dated from around 1900-1920. Also including some personal portraits of the artist’s family, which appear to have been translated into figures in his commercial designer. In addition, we have an album of printed samples of his designs, showing the scope of the artist’s talent in print, with products ranging from tobacco to wool to footwear. These printed samples show that many of the drawings in our collection ended up incorporated into a printed advert or packaging design.
