Kenneth Raymond Denton (1932-2024) was a landscape and marine painter born in Chatham, Kent. He won a scholarship to Medway College of Art in 1944 and in 1946 became an apprentice to decorative artist Arthur Charles Gull. After National Service in the Army, Denton set up as a freelance decorative artist while gaining a Fellowship of the British Institute of Interior Designers and The Chartered Society of Designers. In 1967 he turned to full-time painting. He has also held several teaching posts, including Maidstone College of Art and Royal School of Military Engineering. In 1983 Denton was the winner of the Hunting Art Prize. He is also a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, and the International Society of Marine Painters. Examples of his work are in the collections of former Prime Minister Edward Heath, Littlehampton Museum in Sussex, Laren Museum in Amsterdam, and the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
