Artist Biography

Born in Chatham, Kent, Kenneth Rayond Denton won a scholarship to Medway College of Art in 1944. Two years later, he began an apprenticeship with decorative artist Arthur Charles Gull. After National Service in the Army, in 1954 Denton set up as a freelance decorative artist while gaining a Fellowship of the British Institute of Interior Designers and the Chartered Society of Designers. In 1967 he turned to full-time painting and has held several teaching posts, including Maidstone College of Art and Royal School of Military Engineering. Denton's work has earned significant recognition. He won the Hunting Art Prize in 1983 and the Charles Pears Prize at the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He is a member of the RSMA, the International Society of Marine Painters, and the Hesketh Hubbard Art Society. His paintings are held in prestigious collections worldwide, including those of former Prime Minister Edward Heath, the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, Laren Museum in Amsterdam, and Littlehampton Museum in Sussex.
