A vibrant and intriguing gouache scene by Kenneth Gribble (1925-1995), depicting a coal mine on a grey cloudy day. On either side of the industrial site sits patchwork fields of agricultural grazing and a quaint mining village. Beautifully presented in a new card mount. Inscribed verso. On paper laid to board.Condition
The painting itself is in very good condition. There is some very minor discolouration.

Artist Biography
Painter, born in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, who studied at Harrow School of Art, 1943-44 and later at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, 1945-46 and the Slade 1946-50. He simultaneously studied under David Bomberg at the Borough Bottega in the evenings. His early teaching posts included Lithography at the Central School of Arts & Crafts and by 1956 he had been appointed Principal of Ashton-under-Lyne School of Art then the smallest art school in the UK. His visiting teachers there included L.S. Lowry. He was also Principal of Lincoln School of Art, 1960-67, Taunton School of Art and Maidstone College of Art from where he retired in 1984. He showed at the RWA, RA, RBA, Beaux Arts Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Lincolnshire Artists' Society, Leeds Art Gallery and the MAFA of which he was an elected member. Examples of his work are held by Manchester Art Gallery, Usher Gallery, Middlesbrough Art Gallery, RWA and Salford Museum and Art Gallery. He held a solo show at Phillips Gallery, Middlesbrough 1955 and later ones included Taunton Brewhouse Theatre, 1977.
