This charming gouache study depicts various workers in a back alleyway pushing carts and carrying boxes. The artist uses bold gouache colours to capture the lively scene. Signed to the lower right. Presented in a glazed wooden frame with a gilt slip.

Artist Biography

Kenneth Brookes (18971974) was a painter and commercial artist born in Eccles near Manchester. Brookes studied at Watford School of Art and Harrow School of Art, 1913-16 and was member of the London Sketch Club, of which he was president in the early 1950's. He exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists and the Arlington Gallery.
