An exquisite charcoal drawing depicting 'The pearls of Aphrodite'. This highly accurate copy by Kathleen Rumsey was taken from the 1907 artwork by Herbert Draper (1863-1920), an eminent English Classicist painter, in this composition the Greek Goddess Aphrodite is handed pearls fresh from the sea by mythical creatures. Although we have no biographical information on the artist Rumsey, it is clear from the superb detail and handling of the medium that Rumsey was a highly skilled draughtsman. There is a layer of fixative covering the fragile medium. Signed. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. Areas of ware to the corners of the paper have suffered some damage. The main image is not effected.
