Kathleen Rumsey After Herbert Draper - 1905 Charcoal, Day and the Dawn Star
DescriptionAn exquisite charcoal drawing depicting 'Day and the Dawn Star'. This highly accurate copy by Kathleen Rumsey was taken from the 1906 artwork by Herbert Draper (1863-1920), an eminent classicist painter. Although we have no biographical information on the artist Rumsey, it is clear from the superb detail and handling of the medium that Rumsey was a highly skilled draughtsman. There is a layer of fixative covering the fragile medium. Inscribed with the title. Signed and dated. On wove.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and areas of foxing. Scattered pin holes are visible to the edges and corners of the paper. Slight creasing to the outer edges of the paper with several 2cm tears to the edges of the paper. These do not effect the main image.
