Kathleen Rumsey After Bouguereau - 1905 Charcoal, The Abduction of Psyche

Item Sold

An exquisite charcoal drawing depicting 'The Abduction of Psyche'. This highly accurate copy by Kathleen Rumsey was taken from the 1895 artwork by William-Adolphe Bouguereauer (1825-1905), an eminent French, academic Classicist painter, in this composition the mortal woman Psyche is abducted by the God Cupid. Although we have no biographical information on the artist Rumsey, it is clear from the superb detail and handling of the medium that Rumsey was a highly skilled draughtsman. There is a layer of fixative covering the fragile medium. Inscribed with the title. Signed and dated. On wove.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and areas of foxing. Scattered pin holes are visible to the edges and corners of the paper. Slight creasing to the outer edges of the paper.

69.6 x 46.1cm (27.4" x 18.1")
