An accomplished oil painting by Kathleen L. Wigglesworth, depicting a rural river scene, near Burford. Monogrammed to the lower right-hand corner. There is a note by the artist attached on the reverse. Artist's name and title inscribed on the reverse. Well-presented in a gilt-effect frame with inner details in pale pink and white, as shown. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor surface marks, otherwise in good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Small scuffs and marks to the frame.

Artist Biography

Little-known painter who did not study art until she enrolled at the Byam Shaw School of Art until 1948. She spent nearly as decade there as a part-time student studying under Pater Greenham and Patrick Phillips. Wigglesworth showed at the Royal Society of British Artists, Royal West of England Academy, Walker's Gallery and at the New English Art Club who elected her a member.
