Description

Three black cormorants perch on jagged rocks before a vast seascape in this striking work by Karen Edwards (b.1961). Edwards captures the luminous effects of the sunlight as it breaks through the overcast clouds. The work is signed and inscribed to the verso, and is well presented in a black frame with gilt slip. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Overall the condition is very good. Some slight discolouration to the paint surface. Faint scuffs and scratches to the frame.

Artist Biography

Karen Edwards was born in Lambeth in 1961. She studied fine art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, during which time she was awarded the John Christie scholarship, the Hatton Prize, and the Annabel Winship Smiles travelling scholarship. She has travelled extensively, and has lived in Cameroon, Vietnam, Thailand, Kenya, and Kiribati. She now lives and works in Bristol. She was elected as a member of the Royal West of England Academy in 2004.
