Description

Dutch sailing boats navigate tempestuous seas in this dramatic nineteenth century seascape. A headland can be seen beyond, with a small town and windmill perching atop its white cliffs. Well presented in a gilt frame with floral corner ornamentation. Signed 'K. Grolig' to the lower right. Please note that we do not believe this to be the work of German artist Curt Viktor Clemens Grolig (1805-1863). On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Overall the condition is good for a picture of this age. Some discolouration and areas of craquelure to the paint surface. Some small losses to the paint in the lower right. Areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame, including scuffing and small losses to the running patterns.

Size

55 x 75cm (21.7" x 29.5")
