Artist Biography
June Bevan was born in Birmingham in 1927, and educated at King's Norton Girls Grammar School, showing an aptitude for painting and draughtsmanship from an early age. In 1953, June married John Bevan and together they had three sons. She began painting seriously in 1962, exhibiting her work and attending courses whilst bringing up the family. In 1976 she gained her teaching diploma and taught at Wilmslow Preparatory School.
In 1982, June held her first one woman exhibition at the Manchester Business School, and concentrated more and more on her art after the passing of her husband one year later. She regularly attended courses, and gained her full degree in Fine Art from John Moores University in 2000. Bevan's work has a focus on light, which she believes is of primary importance, depicting it's subtle nuances being a key endeavour for her.
A member of the Stockport Art Guild, June Bevan was also a founder member of the Bramhall Art Society. She has exhibited at the Salon de Bezier, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, The Society of Women Artists and the Bath Open Exhibition.
