Collection Information

Julius Hüther (or Huether) (Born 4 November 1881 in Cannstatt, died 9 August 1954 in Munich) was a German painter, illustrator and graphic designer. Hüther entered the Munich Academy in 1900 where he studied with Gabriel von Hackl and Ludwig von Löfftz. From 1905 he was a member of the Guild of Artists "The Juryfreien" and later the Munich Secession. In 1925 he was appointed professor at the Munich Academy. Hüther’s early works possessed a style the German Expressionists aspired to; visionary and imaginative imagery. Although he did not belong to the circle of the Blue Rider, his form and content stood close to these artists. He regularly depicted nudes in outdoor settings and religious portraits, which were at the centre of his work.
