An imaginative interpretation of the Acropolis in Athens Greece. The scene shows the Acropolis on a hill with a doric column and a bull to the foreground. Signed, titled and dated to the lower border. Artist proof. Presented in a dark oak frame. On paper.

Condition

There is significant creasing to the edges of the paper and some discolouration to the surface of the piece.

Artist Biography

Joyce Hargreaves trained at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, where she met her future husband Brian Hargreaves (1935-2011). They both gained the National Diploma of Design, became professional artists and collaborated on various projects during their lives together. Brian Hargreaves would become a world famous authority on painting butterflies and illustrated many books, as well as designing postage stamps for various countries.

Joyce has written and illustrated eight books, as well as publishing a journal for a charitable organisation for many years. Her breadth of subject matter ranges from religious iconography to playful children's book illustrations, and everything in between.
