Joshua Fisher (1859-1943) - 1906 Watercolour Coastal Cottages

Description

A fine and accomplished watercolour painting by the well-listed artist Joshua Fisher. The scene depicts coastal cottages with two young girls by the shore. Signed and dated to the lower left-hand corner. There is a label on the reverse inscribed with the artist's name and biography. Well-presented in a wash line card mount and in a wooden frame, with an inner gilt-effect detail, as shown. On watercolour paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing, mainly to the sky area. Very small scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Liverpool born painter and lithographer. the attended Liverpool School of Art studying under John Finnie. Fisher showed at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and at the Royal Cambrian Academy and was also President of the Liver Sketching Club, 1918. His work is signed 'Josh Fisher' and the was the father of Claude Leighton Fisher and George Birkett Fisher.
