A fine watercolour painting by artist Joseph W Milliken depicting a Venice flower market. Bundles of hand cut flowers can be seen in buckets with many figures browsing the beautiful display. A gondola owner is loading his boat with goods in front of a pretty canal bridge and distant church. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. Presented in modern mount and ebonised wood frame.
On watercolour paper.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is only one small dent to the frame on the right hand side.

Artist Biography
Joseph William Milliken (1865-1945) was a Liverpool-born landscape artist who also painted continental scenes in watercolours. Milliken exhibited many times at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and also showed at Royal Academy and Royal Cambrian Academy. There has been some confusion about his first name but government records show that it was as above and not James as is occasionally stated.
