In this atmospheric etching, St Paul's Cathedral looms over lonely figures as they come and go in a fleeting Lowry-esque manner.
The artwork is a restrike from the original plate and is inscribed beneath with the artist's name, as well as the title of the artwork. An inscription in German translates to 'publisher of the society for printing art, Vienna', an art publishers active between 1871-1934.

Pennell, a Philadelphia-born Quaker, spent the first two decades of his career abroad, living primarily in London, where he became a close associate of Whistler. He also taught at Slade School of Art. He won a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle (1900), and 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. He taught also at the Art Students League of New York
