Description

An interesting engraving and collage piece by Joseph Hope-Williams. Hope started producing his 'tinsel pictures' in the 1960's. These pictures are produced using dramatic portraits, the areas of the print are gradually cut away and replaced with printed cloth and embossed foil. On wove.

The condition is good. With some minor discolouration.

Artist Biography

Joseph Hope-Williams was born in 1937 and is concidered to be one of the only artists alive who still produces Penny Plain and Twopence Coloured prints. Hope uses the original old techniques, which he learnt from extensive research in London museums. Hope worked at the Theatre Royal in Norwich where he worked as a scene painter for 20 years.

Hope has a stock of over 100 plates. He prints on a small hand operated press in cramped conditions, just as many of the old publishers would have done. He is also known for his Tinsel pictures and
