A fine coastal scene by the British artist Joseph Hughes Clayton. This delicate watercolour depicts a group of boats sailing to the left of headland, with gulls diving for fish in the foreground. Finely presented in a gilt-effect frame with a ribbon twist running pattern and wash-line mount. On paper.Condition

Artist Biography
Liverpool born painter who lived and exhibited many works at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. His depictions of Port Sunlight were reproduced as postcards for Lever Brothers who had factories in the area. He is known to have been a member of the Liver Sketching Club during the 1890's.
