Joseph Barnes (1835-1915) was a landscape painter. Barnes was born at Epworth, Lincolnshire, the son of a printer and bookseller. He ran away from home to study in Paris where he later exhibited at the Salon. On his return to England, he began exhibiting his work at various art establishments, including the Royal Cambrian Academy, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and Carlisle Art Gallery. He was an exhibitor with the Lake Artists Society and an associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy and his work is represented at Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal.
