John Wilson Ewbank was an English born artist know for his picturesque landscape scenes. Ewbank was apprenticed to Thomas Coulson, an ornamental painter in Newcastle before moving to Edinburgh where he found work as a painter and teacher. He was nominated in 1830 as one of the foundation members of the Royal Scottish Academy.
