John Weston Gough
John painted from a very early age. Born in Abergavenny, Gwent, he was awarded an Honours Certificate from the Royal School of Art when he was six years old. After Technical College, he was apprenticed as a Commercial Artist at Gloucester, and attended Gloucester School of Art.
Moving to London, and working as a fashion illustrator and designer, he continued to paint, and studied under Claude Muncaster at his Summer Schools at Petworth. His work has been extensively exhibited in most of the main London Open Exhibitions, and he has had many one man shows, including several at the Fairfield Hall. His work has been toured nationally with the Arts Council of Great Britain.
An admirer of the great tradition of British watercolour painting of the nineteenth century, he now works principally in this medium, and finds much beautiful scenery and inspiration in the Shropshire countryside where he lived in the latter part of his life. This collection includes many charismatic Venetian views, and depictions of the charming town of Ludlow, Shropshire.
