Description
An 18th century engraving depicting Captain Cook's crew being helped ashore by native people of Tonga. Webber was the artist on Cook's third Pacific voyage and sketched the locals and their customs. The exoticism of the Islands on European observers were widely written about and illustrated throughout the 19th century. Signed in plate. On laid paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. The page is cropped very close at the plate and the lower edge is uneaven.
