An engaging late 19th Century portrait of a young man in a sailor's top. The portrait is executed in the typical Victorian miniaturist style with tiny brush strokes making up the delicate skin tones and fine details. The artist has signed to the lower right beneath the frame and the painting has been presented in a handsome late 19th Century gilt frame with exquisite foliate and floral strap work and berry and leaf molding. The frame is finished with an internal gilt slip and its original glazing. On ivorine.
Condition
The picture has some discolouration. There are two heavy cracks to the ivorine at the left side and the frame has tarnishing to the gilt, age cracking and some small areas of restoration.
