DescriptionA delightful Victorian watercolour by John Syer Snr. Figures appear to be collecting shells and exploring the rock pools in the distance. With body colour. Well presented in a cream card mount and simple black frame. Signed, dated and inscribed with the location. On watercolour paper.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing. Overall the condition is good.

John Syer was a landscape painter, and the father of James Syer. He studied with J. Fisher, a miniaturist in Bristol and exhibited his works at the Royal Academy 1846 - 75, British Institute, Suffolk Street, New Watercolour Society, Grosvenor Gallery and elsewhere. He painted landscapes and coastal scenes with figures, often in Devon and Wales. His works hang in galleries in Bristol, Leeds, Leicester and Sheffield.
