A wonderfully detailed still life study by the Victorian painter John Sowden (1838-1926). His intricate composition captures a perfectly formed bird nest with cowslip flowers set against a mossy backdrop. The nest is perfectly lined with soft feathers that encompass blue flecked eggs. Well presented in a gilt effect frame. Signed to the lower right corner. On paper.
Condition
Overall the condition is very good. The colours have maintained a vibrancy and there is little discolouration. There is a 4cm closed tear to the lower edge. There are some scuffs and marks to the frame.
