A delightful, small collection of watercolour works by the English artist John Picking. The collection includes thoughtful compositions, depicting surreal portraits and abstract scenes. The majority of the works are signed by the artist.

John Picking (b.1939) is a painter from Lancashire. He studied at Wigan School of Art between 1956 and 1960, and was awarded the Governors' medal and a scholarship to Paris. On his return, Picking continued his studies at Edinburgh College of Art, 1960-63, and was awarded the Andrew Grant Scholarship to Spain. In 1967, Picking held his first solo exhibition at New 57 Gallery, Edinburgh. He travelled and worked in Italy, remaining in Sicily, 1974-81, to paint. Picking has lectured at Wigan School of Art, High Wycombe College of Art, Manchester Polytechnic, and is represented in the collection of Edinburgh Corporation and Salford University. In 1973, he was elected a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. He lives and works between studios in Italy and Sicily. As an exhibitor, he has shown at the Mercury Gallery, London, Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh and at the Colin Jellicoe Gallery, Manchester. In 2000, Picking exhibited with the Monique Goldstrom Gallery, Broadway, New York. The Otter Gallery has a painting by Picking in their collection.
