A wonderful contemporary woodcut print by John Norris-Wood, the distinguished natural history illustrator who taught at the Royal College of Art. Norris-Wood was one of the few natural history artists whose work transcends the purely informative, and this highly colourful and stylized botanical composition shows off his imaginative style. On handmade, natural fibre paper (Japanese Unryu paper). Inscribed with the print number '19/20'. Signed.

Artist Biography

From 1950-53, he studied painting and illustration at Goldsmith's and from 1955-58, he was at the Royal College of Art (printmaking and illustration) where he won the silver medal for zoological drawing. From 1966 to the present day, he has been the figurehead behind the Natural History Illustration and Ecological Studies programme at the RCA, where hewas an elected Fellow and visiting Professor. As well as having illustrated a number of books on natural history, in particular reptiles and amphibians, he produced limited edition prints inspired by the exotic and unusual forms of the natural world. He died in 2015.
