Description

A delightful impressionistic painting by John Lochhead (1866-1921), depicting a steady shepherdess moving ewes and lambs past a grass verge. The trees in the scene suggest spring, with their delicate pink blossom standing out against pale blue skies. The artist has signed the composition to the lower right and the oil has been beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame with elaborate foliate mouldings and running pattern details.

On canvas board.

Condition

An inscription to the reverse suggests the oil has been previously cleaned and re varnished. The canvas board is slightly warped but sits fine in its frame.
