An eye-catching landscape study by German-American artist John Heiden (1894-1986). Heiden employs broad, impressionistic brushstrokes and a warm colour palette to capture the evening light. Signed to the lower right. Inscribed "Maine, U.S.A." to the reverse. Well presented in a brown frame with gilt inner edge. On board.

Artist Biography

John Heiden (1894-1986) was born in Menden, Germany. He emigrated to the United States in the interwar period and lived on a farm near Echo Lake, just outside of Johnsonville, Pennsylvania. His work predominantly features the landscapes of Pennsylvania, the Delaware Water Gap region, and the Atlantic coast of Maine.
