John Hamilton Glass SSA - Signed Original Mid 19th Century Watercolour. A fine watercolour with gouache highlights by well listed artist John Hamilton Glass SSA, depicting a scene on the Fife coast, signed lower right and presented in a card mount and gilt frame. Title inscribed in pencil on the label on the reverse 'On the East Coast, Dysart, Fife'. Signed. On wove. Some foxing to the sky and mount, and light mount burn visible to the upper edge. Frame is in good condition.

John Hamilton Glass was a Scottish artist proficient in both oils and watercolours, although chiefly painting in the latter. He painted landscapes, coastal and river scenes. Little is known of his personal life, although he lived in Musselburgh near Edinburgh in Scotland and often worked along the east coast, and sometimes Iona. He exhibited works in the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Hibernian Academy.
